Robert Piper is a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at New York University’s Center on International Cooperation (CIC) and a Non-Resident Executive Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP). He has worked at the United Nations for 35 years, most recently serving as the Secretary-General’s Special Advisor on Solutions to Internal Displacement. He was previously the inaugural Assistant Secretary-General of the UN Development Coordination Office (DCO) from 2019 to 2022, which was created under the 2018 reforms discussed here, after leading UN development and humanitarian teams across four continents.
